Carbon Velo and Velo Paintworks offer a complete custom bicycle paint service for customers buying a new carbon frameset or complete bike. Choose a bespoke paint design for your new carbon frameset and have the finished frame delivered directly to you or returned to Carbon Velo for a complete custom bike build.
The process is designed to be simple: choose your frameset from Carbon Velo, work directly with master painter Liam Crichton at Velo Paintworks to create your design, and we'll arrange for your new frameset to be sent to Velo Paintworks for painting.
How does the Carbon Velo custom paint service work?
Ordering a custom-painted frameset from Carbon Velo involves three simple steps:
- Design your custom paint scheme. Take advantage of a free design session with Liam at Velo Paintworks. Liam will listen to your ideas and guide you through the available design and finish options.
- Order your frameset from Carbon Velo. Purchase your chosen frameset from the Carbon Velo website and select the Custom Paint option from the colour selector. We'll arrange for your unpainted frameset to be delivered to Velo Paintworks for painting.
- Have your frameset painted and delivered. Liam will keep you updated throughout the painting process. Once complete, your custom-painted frameset can be delivered directly to you or returned to Carbon Velo for us to build into a complete bike.
How much does custom bicycle paint cost?
Custom bicycle paint from Velo Paintworks starts from £450. The final price depends on the complexity of your chosen design and finish. The cost will be discussed with you during your design consultation before the painting process begins.
How long does custom bicycle painting take?
Velo Paintworks generally aims to complete custom paint work within 4–6 weeks. Actual lead times can vary, and Velo Paintworks will advise you of their current waiting time when you discuss your design.
Can I buy an unpainted carbon frame for custom painting?
We can source many framesets in the Carbon Velo range as raw, unpainted carbon frames. These are only available to customers using our official paint service by Velo Paintworks.
A factory-painted frameset can also be custom painted. In this case, the existing finish will need to be removed appropriately before the new design can be applied. If you are planning a custom-painted build, contact Carbon Velo before ordering and we can advise whether your chosen frameset is available in a raw finish.
Please note that some of our partner manufacturers, including Quick Pro, do not currently allow their frames to be painted without invalidating its warranty.
Who are Velo Paintworks?
Velo Paintworks is owned and run by Liam Crichton, an award-winning, internationally practising artist and custom bicycle painter.
As well as working with Carbon Velo, Velo Paintworks is the painting partner for DONARD, Ireland's leading framebuilder. Liam also races for the Velo Cafe Magasin team and is a member of Cycling Ireland.
Carbon Velo works with Velo Paintworks to give our customers access to specialist custom bicycle painting while keeping the process of ordering a new frameset or complete custom bike as straightforward as possible.
Can custom paint be included in a Cycle to Work voucher purchase?
No. The custom paint service itself cannot be funded using a Cycle to Work voucher. Only the purchase cost of the eligible frameset or complete bike can be funded by the voucher. The cost of the custom paint service is paid directly to Velo Paintworks.
Can I create a custom design without brand logos?
You can work with Velo Paintworks to create a design of your choice. However, we require at least small brand logos to remain on the frame so that the frameset can be clearly identified.
It is also a condition of the frame warranty that the frame remains identifiable and that its UCI sticker is displayed. If you would like a particularly minimal design, discuss this with us and Velo Paintworks before the final design is agreed.

Can Carbon Velo build my custom-painted frameset into a complete bike?
Yes. Instead of having the finished frameset delivered directly to you, Velo Paintworks can return it to Carbon Velo for us to build into your complete bike.
This means you can choose your frameset, custom paint design and bike specification through a single process, with the finished custom-painted frameset returned to us ready for assembly.
How do I order a custom-painted frameset from Carbon Velo?
Choose your preferred frameset from the Carbon Velo website and select the Custom Paint option where available. You can then work with Velo Paintworks on the design of your paint scheme while we arrange delivery of the frameset for painting.
