Hi, I'm Alex

Carbon Velo is a family-run business in South Wales, supported by a small team of experienced mechanics who share a genuine enthusiasm for bikes.

We're the same team who have grown Winspace UK since 2020, and continue to operate that site for dedicated Winspace information.

I'm Alex, the owner of Carbon Velo. My background isn't originally in the bicycle industry - I studied engineering before working in semiconductor manufacturing in Hong Kong then Belgium, eventually returning home to Wales and spending 20 years at a corporate law firm. (I know it's hard to believe I'm that old!)

I've always loved the physical challenge and adventure of cycling, but I'm equally fascinated by the bikes themselves. I love cycling technology, components and equipment, understanding how things work and, inevitably, trying the latest kit. That combination of engineering curiosity and a love of cycling is a big part of how Winspace UK has developed.

I'm joined in the workshop by a small team of mechanics, including Richard, who owned and ran bike shops in the South West of England for more than 20 years.

Despite the business growing, we want to retain the personal approach of a small specialist bike shop. The people you speak to are the same people who work on the bikes, and we genuinely enjoy getting to know our customers and the riding they do.

Cycling is very much part of family life too. My 12-year-old son has introduced me to the crazy world of dirt jumping and pump tracks, and it won't be long before he's overtaking me on the trails!

For us, bikes aren't simply products we sell. We enjoy riding them, building them, talking about them and continually learning about the technology that goes into them. That's the kind of bike shop we want Carbon Velo to be.

Why Carbon Velo?

Carbon Velo grew naturally from years of working with high-performance bikes and components. The more bikes we built, the more opportunities we had to see different products first-hand - how they're engineered, how they're finished, how they build, and ultimately how they perform.

We don't want to offer every brand or fill the website with thousands of products. Instead, we've chosen to work with a carefully selected group of manufacturers whose products meet our standards for quality, performance and value.

Many of those relationships have developed over years. We know the products, we know the people behind them and, importantly, we're happy to put our name behind what they make.

That gives Carbon Velo the freedom to offer something broader than any single manufacturer: a carefully selected range of frames, wheels and components that can be bought individually or brought together to create a complete bike built specifically for you.

The Brands We Choose

We believe the products we sell should earn their place in our range. We look for brands that combine excellent engineering, high manufacturing quality and genuine performance with sensible value.

We build with these products, ride them, work on them and support customers who own them. That gives us a very different perspective on what makes a product good - from the quality of a carbon frameset and the precision of its finishing to component compatibility, serviceability and long-term support.

We also value strong relationships with the manufacturers themselves. Many have been built over several years, giving us direct access to the people behind the products and the technical support needed to look after our customers properly.

The result is a deliberately focused range of brands and product.

That gives Carbon Velo the freedom to offer something broader than any single manufacturer: a carefully selected range of frames, wheels and components that can be purchased individually or brought together to create a complete bike built specifically for you.

More Than an Online Bike Shop

Behind Carbon Velo is a real workshop and a small team with decades of combined experience working with bikes.

Every complete bike is individually specified and professionally assembled at our workshop in South Wales. We've built hundreds of high-performance bikes and that hands-on experience informs the advice we give - from frame sizing and component compatibility to gearing, cockpit dimensions and final setup.

You can buy a frameset, wheelset or component from us just as you would from any online retailer. But when you need advice, want to create a complete custom build or need support after your purchase, you'll deal directly with the mechanic who build your bike, who know the products and work with them every day.

Built for You. Supported by Us.

A complete bike from Carbon Velo isn't a fixed factory specification. Every bike is built to order, with the frame, wheels, groupset and components selected around you, your riding and your preferences.

We'll help where you need us - from sizing and gearing to component choices and setup - before agreeing the final specification with you and building your bike in our South Wales workshop.

Our involvement doesn't end when your bike leaves us. We provide UK-based warranty and after-sales support for the products we sell, so if you need help in the future, you'll be dealing with the same people who supplied and built your bike.

Come and See Us

We're located on a popular, beautiful coastal ride in the Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales and customers are welcome to visit us to talk through a new bike or frameset, discuss sizing and specification, see products in person and, where available, try our demo bikes and wheels.

Come and talk through a new bike or upgrade, see our products in person and, where available, take a closer look at our demo bikes and wheels. Whether you already know exactly what you're looking for or need some help working through the options, we're happy to talk bikes.

Get in touch before travelling and we'll arrange a convenient time to see you.
